On 30 July, ukactive announced plans for National Fitness Day 2020, which will take place on Wednesday 23 September. As communities across the UK come together to celebrate our common interest in fitness and the power it has to bring us together, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s theme will be ‘Fitness Unites Us’.
Getting involved in this year’s event is easier than ever – especially for Legend clients. We can’t wait to see what you get up to!
Uploading your activities for National Fitness Day 2020
To ensure the widest possible reach and uptake of this year's National Fitness Day activity finder, ukactive has decided to take a different approach to how you upload and advertise your activities through digital products. The National Fitness Day activity finder will be powered by open data, using OpenActive standards.
Over the past few months during lockdown, the general public's willingness to use alternative digital pathways to find and book virtual activities has grown immensely, and ukactive is keen to continue this momentum into physical events as restrictions ease, to provide the greatest opportunity to successfully engage with consumers in these uncertain times.
The approach for this year's National Fitness Day is not new - over 1,000 locations and 250,000 activities are already published as open data, making it easier for participants to find sessions that are right for them, and ukactive intends on building upon existing proven methods to maximise reach and engagement through the use of OpenActive. To have both your virtual and physical activities featured for National Fitness Day, they must be published openly to OpenActive data standards.
Remember, this approach will continue to benefit you beyond National Fitness Day.
What is OpenActive?
OpenActive is a sector-wide initiative to make it easier to find and book activities online. Any person or organisation that provides a physical activity can benefit, from leisure operators, National Governing Bodies, independent organisations offering local activities in parks to independent instructors.
OpenActive allows your activities to feature across different websites, apps and platforms, instantly. You no longer have to upload information or agree partnerships one at a time, it’s basically free marketing!
Legend & OpenActive
At Legend, we have been working closely with the OpenActive team to bring open data to our clients. This helps you attract new members, as well as to support other local health and community initiatives that book your facilities.
It’s easy for us to open your timetables up so that classes and other activities are visible to participants via multiple channels. Simply get in touch with your Legend Account Manager or email CAM@legendware.co.uk to get involved and have your timetables enabled. Our team will work with you to ensure everything is in shape and your activities are opened up as soon as possible.
If you don’t want to open up all activities just yet, you can still get involved in National Fitness Day. Contact ukactive by email at nationalfitnessday@ukactive.org.uk to find out how to register your event, activity or offer online. Once registered, you’ll be able to download the free National Fitness Day marketing toolkit to help promote your event, activity or offer via marketing materials for use across facilities, communities and social media.
Don’t forget to use the #FitnessDay hashtag!
We can’t wait to see how you get involved this September!
